Meeker Energy is seeking an experienced, ethical, team-oriented leader to join our cooperative as Chief Financial Officer.  The preferred start date is September 2, 2025.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will serve as a key leader within the organization, bringing a people-centered approach and deep expertise in electric cooperative and subsidiary finance and accounting.  Success in this role requires a strategic and innovative mindset, exceptional communication skills, and the interpersonal skills necessary to foster collaboration among those he or she leads.

The Trust also has dedicated scholarships for students interested in careers in the industry.  In 2024, the Meeker Cooperative Electric Trust distributed more than $50,000 to various organizations and as scholarships, reinforcing local opportunities and supporting future advancements.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for this position.

  • A verifiable track record of effective leadership (senior or mid-level) within finance or accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a closely related field from an accredited university
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate with boards, executive leadership, and support staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years in a senior finance or accounting leadership role within an electric cooperative
  • Knowledge of regulatory and tax frameworks relevant to electric cooperatives
  • Familiarity with electric cooperative rate design
  • Knowledge of RUS accounting principles
  • An understanding of financial matters related to fiber internet companies
  • Experience with RUS, CFC, and CoBank borrowing
  • Experience with State and Federal grant writing and reconciliation

Your Role at Meeker Energy

As a key member of Meeker Energy’s senior leadership, the Chief Financial Officer oversees a team of four to ensure excellence in all finance and accounting functions.  This role has financial responsibilities for the electric and broadband business, as well as providing a degree of financial review/oversight related to the co-op’s co-owned subsidiaries.

Responsibilities

  • Continue to foster a culture of transparency, ethics, professionalism, and employee engagement within the finance and accounting team
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information, insights, and forecasts to the CEO, board, employees, and outside stakeholders
  • Oversee all accounting and finance processes, including but not limited to budgeting, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital credits, payroll, debt financing, collections, and work orders
  • Assist auditors with preparation of corporate tax returns
  • Manage the accounting and finance affairs of Vibrant Broadband and Meeker Cooperative Electric Trust
  • Serve as a primary resource on compliance and policy-related issues
  • Monitor and report on the cooperative’s financial performance
  • Pursue grant opportunities
  • Work with the CEO on matters related to hiring practices and the cooperative’s wage and salary program
  • Direct and analyze the employee benefits program
  • Set and achieve financial goals in alignment with organizational strategy
  • Maintain strong working relationships with key financial institutions
  • Prepare and present monthly board financial reports
  • Represent the cooperative in community and industry settings as needed
  • Monitor economic, legislative, and industry trends, and recommend appropriate responses
  • Provide testimony in regulatory or legal settings when necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $200,000, depending on a candidate’s qualifications.

A comprehensive benefit package is offered, including generous PTO and holiday leave, health insurance, HSA, a Section 125 plan, dental and vision insurance, fitness club reimbursement, short- and long-term disability insurance, 401(k), and pension plan.

The CFO will primarily work from the headquarters in Litchfield, though the cooperative values flexibility and allows limited remote work arrangements.
